Position Summary

Reporting to the Project Director, the Planner/Scheduler is responsible for establishing project schedules for medium to high complexity projects with oversight from the Planning / Scheduling Manager, maintaining project schedules of any complexity level, preparing 3-week look-aheads, developing schedule performance reports and delay analyses of time impacts of intermediate complexity, and providing assistance with project budgeting, change management, and cash flows.

This position is working on-site for a Regina area project. This will involve a rotational schedule with LOA and travel eligible for non-local candidates.

As a Planner/Scheduler at Graham, you will:

  • Prepare the project master schedule for medium to high complexity projects in accordance with the contract requirements and company best practices using the Critical Path Method with occasional guidance from the Planning / Scheduling Manager.
  • Understand contract obligations as they relate to the project schedule and project milestones, and define the drivers and interfaces with third parties that may affect such milestones.
  • Work with the client (or client scheduling consultants) to approve and establish a project baseline schedule that reflects the project duration and project milestones as defined in the contract documents.
  • Prepare schedule updates, including cash flow updates, as per GMS guidelines, and implement the schedule update process when working remotely on a project.
  • Carry out schedule revisions when required.
  • Perform review and integration of risk registers and labour productivities.
  • Report schedule performance in the form of a regularly published Schedule Performance Report that contains progress dashboards, Earned Value Analysis / Schedule Performance Index, S-curves, Heatmaps, Milestone Trend Analysis, Variance Analysis, and areas of concern.
  • Identify and communicate areas of risk and opportunity as it relates to the project schedule and participate in response planning.
  • Propose corrective actions relating to production and lead discussions on such corrective actions, schedule mitigation measures, and resequencing with the project team.
  • Identify and communicate critical path and near critical path activities.
  • Identify risks and review with the site team to identify if the risk is acceptable or if corrective action needs to be taken, and provide the project team with what-if scenarios to assess the effectiveness of proposed corrective actions.
  • Review schedules prepared by non-schedulers to identify quality issues and risks and assist in defining optimum risk response plan to complete the project on time.
  • Liaise with subtrades and field superintendents for input into the project schedule and look-aheads.
  • Understand the basic principles of different methodologies of delay analysis in the industry, and work with external delay experts to provide support for extension of time claims.
  • Track and report on schedule float.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Industrial construction experience required.
  • Equivalent to completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school; degree in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.
  • 5+ years of Planning / Scheduling experience in the required field (buildings, industrial, civil or infrastructure).
  • PMP, PMI-SP, PSP, EIT, P.Eng., CCDA, and/or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) designation is an asset.
  • Experience working on a least one project from initiation to closeout.
  • Planning / Scheduling experience in a variety of delivery methods (EPC, Design-Build, CM, PPP, etc.).
  • Good understanding of and exposure to different delay analysis techniques.
  • General Contractor experience is required.
  • Experience using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Tilos, Powerproject, and vPlanner is an asset.
