We are looking for a Translator - Proofreader to join our team in our Montreal office!

As a Translator - Proofreader, you will be responsible of managing and updating wordings, coordinating translations and providing expertise.

Your day as a Translator - Proofreader

  • Maintain and update the Lloyd's endorsement database.
  • Maintain and update the database of IBC general wordings.
  • Maintain a register of translations and provide statistics when required.
  • Translate wordings and endorsements for BFL and TSW
  • Develop the RWS Language Weaver program to enhance its efficiency, reducing dependency on RWS translations.
  • When required, coordinate translations with RWS and teams.
  • Review translations completed by RWS to ensure alignment with insurance terminology and accuracy.
  • Serve as a resource for the Linguistic Services Department team when addressing insurance-specific terms and nuances.
  • Implement uniformity and consistency standards across various wordings (presentation, numbering, etc.)
  • Introduce a system for digitizing wording versions, ensuring comprehensive tracking of all modifications from one version to another.
  • Assist teams in the creation of new programs, ensuring the quality and clarity of wording.
  • Ensure that additions, deletions, or modifications to wordings maintain consistency and avoid redundancy (e.g., using uniform terminology, avoiding conflicting clauses).
  • Obtain approval for all modifications, additions, or subtractions from the insurer.
  • Distribute the latest endorsements or wordings to the appropriate brokers or platforms (online, Leo, etc.).
  • Suggest appropriate wordings to brokers when structuring insurance towers (Base and Excess layers).
  • Create explanatory documents addressed to the brokers and clients at renewals.
  • Create endorsements to be signed by the client at midterms.
  • For in-house wordings, ensure full compliance with the list of required endorsements specified in Lloyd's contracts.
  • Liaise with the Claims Department to address wordings when excessive claims are identified, ensuring the program remains viable.
  • Assist the in-house Programs team during program renewals, specifically from a wording perspective, and coordinate necessary changes.
  • Support in-house program teams during insurer/Lloyd's audits to ensure adherence to wording compliance (versioning, formatting, endorsements, etc.)
  • For the Digital department, provide additional documentation related to wordings that must be presented on platforms (e.g., exclusions, Q&A, etc.).
  • Provide guidance and expertise on Bill 96, addressing questions and ensuring compliance.
  • Educate brokers on the necessary procedures to follow in compliance with Bill 96, ensuring adherence across Canada.
  • Develop and deliver accredited training courses for staff and brokers, focusing on insurance wordings, understanding terminology, and compliance.
  • Support the development of new insurance products by offering expert insight on wording structures and ensuring that legal and regulatory requirements are met in all translations.
  • Work closely with the Translation and Compliance teams to ensure that all wordings, endorsements, and translations are fully aligned with regulatory requirements, maintaining both linguistic and legal accuracy.

Our ideal candidate

  • Experience in managing databases, using translation software such as RWS Language Weaver, and improving translation processes to increase efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance terminology, including wordings and endorsements, and ability to ensure consistency and accuracy of translations.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Power Point, and Excel).
  • Bilingual with strong verbal and written communication skills in both French and English, as the candidate will be required to interact in English with stakeholders (colleagues and clients) outside Quebec.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and with others throughout the organization.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring the quality of translations and documentation distributed.
