What is the opportunity?

As we work to extend RBC's leadership profile as one of the country's definitive corporate voices for ideas and solutions that drive Canadian prosperity, we are seeking a Senior Director of Editorial. In this new role, the successful candidate will help shape our research and commentary on the most pressing strategic issues across the rest of the 2020s, including Canada's ability to compete and grow in a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape, the climate transition, and the impact the AI transformation will have on all aspects of our society. With our country's changing political landscape, our work to lead national conversations, convene government and private sector leaders, and facilitate bold action to advance Canada's place in the world will take on even greater importance.

The Senior Director, Editorial is responsible for RBC's editorial content and delivery of thoughts leadership reports and supporting content. This role manages a multidisciplinary team to deliver impactful, timely, and engaging content across multiple platforms, including reports, multimedia, and digital formats. The successful candidate will drive publication planning, and ensure the highest standards of editorial, design, and production, and work closely with our heads of thought leadership and climate research.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in editorial writing, translating data and trends across channels and audiences. They are skilled at developing clear and engaging narratives from complicated economic and business research.

What will you do?

  • Develop and execute a cohesive editorial plan and content calendar aligned to key strategic platforms
  • Help shape and edit major thought leadership pieces ensuring the highest editorial standard and rigorous fact-checking
  • Lead a team responsible for the end-to-end delivery of thought leadership including planning, editorial, production and delivery
  • Collaborate with researchers, writers, editors, designers, and contributors to produce compelling content
  • Lead the development of multimedia assets across channels and formats including video
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify key opportunities for impact
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10+ years of experience in editorial and/or thought leadership roles
  • Proven ability in developing clear and engaging narratives from complicated economic and business research.
  • Expertise in Canadian economic, social, and policy landscapes across
  • Excellent writing and editing capability
  • Strong understanding of multimedia content creation, including digital, print, and video formats
  • Proven experience managing complex publication schedules
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with a collaborative mindset.

Nice-to-have

  • Previous experience in a large, global leading Financial Institution or consulting firm
  • Experience in business journalism
