What would my role be?

Reporting to the Manager, Admissions and Patient Flow, you will:

  • Be responsible for receiving and processing incoming patient referrals which involves extensive use of Electronic Medical Patient Records and other systems such as EPIC, OCEAN as well as systems through the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to extract patient related information.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the waitlist information is accurate and up to date to ensure patient admissions are organized in an equitable manner as well as supporting the coordination of admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Admissions Coordinators and other departments to ensure the overall bed management and admission process is well managed and coordinated. This will also include making bed offers and supporting the coordination of admissions and transfers.
  • Perform some administrative duties as required
  • Join an on-call rotation.

How do I qualify?

Required:

  • Two (2) year Community College Diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a hospital setting.
  • Experience extracting patient information from systems such as vOacis, CHRIS, SMART as well as the Canadian Institute of Health Information
  • Experience operating office equipment such as copiers, scanners and faxes.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience using MEDITECH, or other electronic medical records
  • Fluent in French and English (Candidates who do not meet this language requirement are eligible to apply for this position and may be considered if there are no other suitable applicants who meet this requirement).

What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?

  • Knowledge of hospital Programs and Corporate Services.
  • Knowledge of admission and registration process.
  • Effective interpersonal skill, communication and listening skills.
  • High level data entry skills (efficient and accurate) for patient registration
  • High degree of initiative and analytical skills
  • Able to work with multiple team members who may have competing priorities and work requests.
  • Team player with flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize to meet changing workload demands in a timely fashion.
  • Patient, flexible, able to work exercise and able to exercise good judgment in priority setting and in a demanding fast paced environment
  • Wait list management and / or priorities of admission skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to self-monitor for data entry errors in systems such as Point Click Care while maintaining an efficient work pace
  • Able to safeguards patient information and confidentiality
  • Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with creativity.
  • Advanced computer skills specifically Microsoft Office suite
  • Intermediate medical terminology
