In this role, you'll lead educational programs and resource management initiatives, contributing directly to Ontario's conservation efforts. Your expertise will inspire visitors and foster a deeper appreciation for our natural environment for generations to come.

Arrowhead Provincial Park is in the heart of Muskoka. The park offers three sand beaches on Arrowhead Lake which are serene motorboat-free lakes. There are 15 km of hiking trails including a trail leading to a beautiful waterfall. During the winter you can ski, snowshoe and ice skate on our one-of-a-kind ice trails, which have become a major attraction during the winter months.

About the job

In this role, you will:

Coordinate Educational Programs: Plan and implement educational programs, including guided hikes, evening programs, and historical re-enactments to engage park visitors.
Develop Interpretive Materials: Create publications such as park tabloids, trail guides, and interpretive brochures to enhance visitor experience.
Lead and Train Staff: Provide leadership and training to park interpreters and students, ensuring effective program delivery and excellent customer service.
Organize Special Events: Coordinate special events and guest speakers to educate visitors about the park's resources and values.
Partner with First Nations: Work with First Nations contacts to incorporate their knowledge and perspectives into educational programs.
Ensure Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe environment for staff and visitors.

NOTE: the successful candidate will also be required to:
• obtain a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate
• work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays as needed
• occasionally work in inclement weather and travel extended distances by vehicle to deliver extension programming

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• must have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, the offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license upon being hired

Knowledge of Natural and Cultural Resources:

• knowledge of the native and invasive flora, fauna, geology, meteorology and astronomy of Ontario
• knowledge of ecological concepts, theories, procedures and protection practices relevant to provincial parks.

Communication skills:

• oral and written communication skills to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences
• ability to provide customer service and engage with educational representatives and park visitors

Educational and Interpretive Program Development:

• knowledge of educational curriculum, interpretive approaches, techniques, and common practices
• ability to develop and deliver educational and interpretive programming, including publications and special events

Leadership and Organizational skills:

• capability to provide leadership and training to staff and volunteers
• coordination skills to organize resources and ensuring effective program delivery

Technical Skills:

• proficiency in using personal computers, including word processing, databases, and presentation software
• ability to operate and maintain various field and audio-visual equipment
