JOB SUMMARY

The Drop-In Supervisor will provide professional and proactive support to frontline staff. They are responsible to prioritizing and delegating workload to staff. In consultation with management, this position will help to provide daily feedback and supervision to the team. They will also provide direct support to community members using trauma informed and culturally safe practices. This is a term position ending 30 April 2026.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists management in the implementation of new policies and practices, implementing best practices, and maintaining the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization;
  • As part of the Drop-In Management team, provide feedback on staff performance;
  • Exemplify Siloam's core values in all day-to-day activities;
  • Lead a team of Drop-In staff and train new employee's; by providing on-site day-to-day supervision working alongside the Drop-In team to provide care to Siloam's community;
  • Provide direction, leadership, and supervision for Drop-In Staff, working with the management team on performance reviews and training and development;
  • Incorporate a Housing-Focused approach and monitor the Behaviour Based approach;
  • Work, as a part of the Drop-In Management team to accomplish performance reviews, training, and development of the team members;
  • Provide a weekly schedule for Drop-In Staff
  • Assist with Timekeeping Management for Drop-In Staff
  • Monitor, evaluate, and communicate progress of staff with staff themselves, management, and fellow team members on a regular basis;
  • Deal with staff concerns that arise on-site in a timely and appropriate manner;
  • Mediates conflict between staff or staff and community member as needed or upon request;
  • Delegate and assign the work as per the priority and ensure that each drop-in staff performs their duties as per the required standards;
  • Provide direct support for community members accessing Siloam Mission's Drop-In services in a professional manner;
  • Participate in sector meetings
  • Be aware of and report any damage to facilities or Siloam property through the HIPPO reporting system;
  • Oversees crisis response plan and ensures the plan is followed;
  • Provide professional and informative orientation of the Drop-In staff to Volunteers;
  • Ensure Volunteers are treated with equality, respect, dignity and support them to have a positive experience;
  • Point of contact during shift for Security Guards onsite;
  • Prepare and complete incident reports, daily logs and other required documents and reports;
  • Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of community members, staff and Siloam Mission at all times

Staff Management & Development

  • Assist in the recruitment, selection process of staff and work with HR in hiring selection.
  • Train staff in accordance with established policies and procedures to ensure they are able to perform all duties of their position in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Assist staff to develop their skills and abilities by providing opportunities for leadership/mentoring roles in services and programs.
  • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.
  • Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in relevant social services or equivalent work experience;
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to lead a team and work collaboratively as part of a team;
  • 1 - 2 years leadership experience preferred;

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS

  • Able to work with a diverse staff team and promote inclusion and cultural awareness in the workplace;
  • Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous people
  • Certificates in NVCI, ASIST, CPR First Aid, Mental Health First Aid; preferred Experience working with HIFIS4, is an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge Anti-Oppressive Practice and Trauma Informed best practices
  • Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use; and harm reduction;
  • Knowledge of Housing First Principles and housing resources;
  • Ability to mitigate and respond to threats to safety and security of staff and community members;
  • Ability to work within a harm reduction framework;
  • Ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
  • Ability to lead a small team of volunteer
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment, and has strong ability to make quick decisions;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • MS Office and data entry skills;

RELATIONSHIP

Works closely with Drop-in Staff, Community Members, Volunteers and various other departments of Siloam Mission.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Hours of work 80 Hours bi-weekly, (Monday to Friday, with on-call rotation); Full Time Permanent
  • Periodically lifting of up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Work requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Overtime may be offered when necessary.
  • Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
  • This position is part of an on-call rotation.
  • Term, ending 30 March 2026

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.

  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health
  • Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
  • Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility's Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
  • Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
