At Shopify, we believe developer docs are a core part of developer products. Our dev docs reach thousands of developers and partners building for Shopify, in technologies from open-source giants like Liquid to cutting-edge GraphQL reference docs. Our team is here to set the bar high for quality, lead docs strategy, and partner with contributors across our product to help developers build and grow with Shopify.
Do you care about communicating technical ideas with precision and passion? Do you ensure you get hands-on with the products and technologies you write about? Can you nerd out with engineers about the software they build, and with writers about the words you write?
If that sounds like you, let's talk.
What you'll do:
Understand developer needs, our product portfolio and roadmap, and our users.
Get hands-on with our technology. You can work with CLIs and remote environments; interact with APIs; and do some light coding (with or without LLM assistance).
Support and rally a large (and growing) contributor community. Our team authors some docs first-draft, but a lot of our contributions originate outside our team. You'll review drafts, do outreach to product teams, and raise the bar on quality.
Lead strategic writing projects, from kickoff to content strategy to writing.
Integrate data and user input into your decision-making process
Contribute to our style guide, processes, and toolchain.
What you'll need to be successful:
Experience in a B2B, product-led SaaS organization.
Knowledge of git, GitHub, and static docs site authoring.
Outstanding writing and editing skills. You work quickly, you go beyond standard style guidance to craft exceptional writing, and you keep up with changing industry expectations for great tech docs.
Passion for technology—you understand core programming concepts and you tinker with tech. You're not necessarily a developer, but you can get go hands-on to make your developer docs shine.
Content strategy and information architecture design, from single docs to site-wide journeys.
Curiosity and experience in how GenAI is (and isn't) changing the way we write, edit, and publish content.
Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment. People who do well at Shopify show initiative, take risks, and make decisions quickly.
A passionate hatred (or love) for Markdown tables.
