This position works in the Building organizational unit. This is word processing and clerical work of limited complexity in performing a variety of assignments in accordance with clearly defined work methods and procedures in the Building Department. An incumbent will type from copy, rough draft or general instructions, a variety of office records such as forms, statements, summonses, letters, receipts, cards, vouchers, indexes, permits or other materials using various software applications. A Clerk Typist 2 posts routine journal entries to elementary office records; gives information to other divisions and the public, in applying knowledge of departmental rules, regulations and procedures to a variety of personal and telephone enquiries. Other responsibilities include sorting, checking and processing various office records; filing materials according to alphabetical, numerical and simple subject classifications and making simple arithmetical computations in connection with receipts, statistical reports, summaries and distributions. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by courses in word processing and standard commercial subjects. Some experience as a Clerk Typist 1; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic along with sound knowledge of the practices and procedures used in various software applications and their capabilities as related to the work performed. An incumbent will have some knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations which govern departmental activities; ability to keyboard and to operate various software applications to process a variety of documents and to prepare and maintain related records and files. A Clerk Typist 2 will have the ability learn assigned clerical tasks within a reasonable time and to perform assignments in accordance with prescribed work methods and procedures; to make simple arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed. Ability to compose routine letters and memoranda; to successfully meet and effectively deal with the public in providing factual information concerning department rules and regulations.
